To begin your family history research online, start with our Family History and Genealogy guide

Familysearch.org has a useful list of online South Carolina genealogy records. Some require payment or membership, but most are free.

To view the records Special Collections and the South Carolina Historical Society have, search our library catalog system here. Be sure to select only "Special Collections" and "South Carolina Historical Society" on the left-hand side of the screen.

Select records have also been digitized on the Lowcountry Digital Library here.
