Peer review for scholarly, academic books and book chapters/essays varies widely. Therefore, there is no checkbox limiter for these in the library's search services the way there is for journal articles. The best way to identify books appropriate for research assignments is to select books published by university presses and other publishers known for publishing scholarly, academic books.

You can use the functionality of the library's Discovery Service to help you find such books. Follow the four (4) steps below.

1) Do your keyword search in the library's Discovery Service.

2) On your results page, click the box next to "Books" or "eBooks" in the "Source Types" box.

3) Click on "Publisher" on the left of the results list. Then click on "Show More."

4) Select one or more publishers with "university" in their names and click "Update." In addition to university presses, publishers such as Praeger, Routledge, and Springer are publishers of scholarly, academic books. If you do not recognize a publisher, go to the "About" section of their website and look to see if they publish academic books.
