Q. What does it mean when an item in our catalog says "SCHS USE ONLY"?

It means that the item is only available to examine by appointment at the SCHS headquarters located in the  historic Robert Mills Fireproof Building (100 Meeting Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401).

The vast majority of SCHS materials are available on the third floor of the Addlestone Library on campus – no appointment is necessary.
