Many research databases and journals are subscription-only, meaning that you need to gain access through the library. OpenAthens is a service that makes this easier, without having to go through the library website each time.

If you are trying to access full text on a database or journal website, you can use prompts such as Access via my institution (or similar) and use OpenAthens to connect to subscription access, when available.

If there is more than one option for institutional access, choose OpenAthens. Upon selecting OpenAthens, you may be automatically signed in and able to view full text.

If you are not automatically signed in:

  • Select Find my institution, and search for College of Charleston
  • Sign into Office 365 with your CofC email and password when prompted.
MRL users only: Select the Guest option and enter your MRL-provided credentials.

If you are having trouble, check to be sure the library has full text access by searching for the article title in the Discovery Service. If so, use the link(s) under View Online to see full text. If we do not have access, you can request the article via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
