Yes, a play or play production can be a primary source. If the production is the main focus of your investigation, and your research concerns finding information about the production itself and/or circumstances surrounding the production and/or the influence the production has had on theatre, the production is a primary source.

Similarly, other works of art (literature, music, film, visual arts, architecture) can be primary sources.
