According to the Oxford Dictionary of Business Research Methods, a research methodology is "in its broadest sense, the choice between qualitative studies and quantitative studies."

The Oxford Dictionary of Sports Studies has this to say about research method: "Not to be confused with the more overarching term methodology, research methods are those investigative methods or techniques whereby data are generated and analysed..."

You'll find a good, brief explanations in this encyclopedia entry on methodology and this one on research methods in the World of Sociology.
